Core Principle: PAA Questions Are Customer Phone Call Questions

PAA questions are the exact questions your prospects are typing into Google. They are not academic curiosities — they are the questions your sales team answers on the phone every day. Answer them everywhere: blog, GMB posts, FAQ schema, video scripts, Q&A schema.

The local SEO minimum standard: 16 PAA posts per location.

Mining PAA Questions

Level 1 Mining

Enter the target keyword in Google. Record all 4-6 visible PAA questions. Note: which question gets the featured snippet, from which domain, and what format (paragraph, list, table).

Level 2 Mining

Click each Level 1 PAA card to expand it. This triggers Google to load the next round of related questions. Record all new questions that appear. Do not click the source link — just expand the card.

Level 3 Mining

From the Level 2 questions, select the 3-5 most commercially relevant. Expand each. Record all new questions. Level 3 reveals the long-tail question network for the topic.

Output: A 25-50 question tree organized by topic proximity.

PAA Clustering

Group extracted questions by topic cluster:

| Cluster Type | Example Questions | Content Format | |-------------|------------------|----------------| | Definition | "What is [service]?", "How does [service] work?" | Blog intro section, FAQ schema | | Cost/Value | "How much does [service] cost?", "Is [service] worth it?" | Dedicated cost page, GMB post | | Comparison | "[X] vs [Y]?", "Which is better, [X] or [Y]?" | Comparison article | | Process | "How long does [service] take?", "What happens during [service]?" | Step-by-step guide | | Local | "[service] near me?", "Best [service] in [city]?" | Location page, GMB Q&A | | Problem | "Why is [problem] happening?", "Can [problem] be fixed?" | Diagnostic guide | | Emergency | "Who to call for [emergency]?", "What to do when [emergency]?" | Emergency landing page |

Content Mapping by Question Type

Each question cluster maps to specific content deliverables:

Definition clusters → Blog articles answering 3-5 related questions per post. Target featured snippet with 40-60 word direct answer immediately after the H3.

Cost clusters → Dedicated cost/pricing page with ranges, factors, and comparison table. High commercial intent — include CTA for free estimate.

Comparison clusters → Side-by-side comparison articles. Table format with entity rows and attribute columns.

Process clusters → Step-by-step guides with numbered lists. Each step: action verb first, specific detail second.

Local clusters → Location page sections answering "near me" and city-specific questions. Include GMB Q&A responses for the same questions.

Emergency clusters → Fast-loading landing pages with phone number above the fold. Answer the question in 2 sentences, then CTA.

GMB Q&A Seeding

For each local PAA question, post a Q&A directly in the GMB listing:

  • Post the question from a second account (or ask a team member to post)
  • Business owner answers within 24 hours
  • Include: the exact question as posted by user + 100-150 word answer + CTA

GMB Q&A answers appear in Google Maps and Local Pack results. They also signal to Google that the business actively handles these exact customer questions.

FAQ Schema Mapping

Every cluster of 3+ related PAA questions that you address on a single page qualifies for FAQPage JSON-LD schema. Implementation rules:

  • FAQ schema question text must EXACTLY match a visible H3 on the page
  • Answer text must appear visibly on the page (not hidden)
  • Maximum 5-8 FAQ pairs per page (Google may limit rich result display beyond this)

PAA Content Calendar

Map clusters to a publication schedule. Priority order:

  1. Questions with featured snippets currently owned by weak sources (thin content, old dates)
  2. Questions where competitors have no direct answer
  3. Questions matching the highest buyer intent cluster
  4. Questions related to emergency or time-sensitive topics

Target: 2 new PAA-targeted posts per week per client during active campaign.
