The Minimum Viable Local SEO Content Set
Before any advanced local SEO tactics, establish this foundation:
- 4 service pages (core services)
- 5 GEO posts (location-specific GMB content)
- 16 PAA posts (most common questions for the service type in the location)
= 25 pages minimum per service area.
Local SEO Silo Architecture
A properly structured local SEO silo organizes content into three tiers:
Tier 1: Homepage
- Declares business entity, primary service, primary location
- H1: "Service Company in City, State"
- Links to all Tier 2 service pages
Tier 2: Service Pages (4-8 core services)
- One page per core service
- URL:
/service-name/or/services/service-name/ - Links to relevant Tier 3 location pages and PAA posts
- LocalBusiness + Service + FAQPage schema
Tier 3: Location Pages (one per city/neighborhood served)
- URL:
/service-name/city/or/locations/city/ - City-specific content: local landmarks, local pricing, local regulations
- Links back to parent service page
- LocalBusiness (branch) schema with specific address/geo for that location
Tier 4: PAA Posts (16+ question-targeted posts)
- URL:
/blog/question-slug/or/faq/question-slug/ - Single question answered completely (600-1,200 words)
- Links to relevant service page
- FAQPage schema
URL Structure Decision Tree
For single-location businesses:
/ → Homepage
/services/ → Services hub
/services/roof-replacement/ → Service page
/faq/how-long-roof-last/ → PAA post
For multi-location businesses:
/ → Homepage
/services/roof-replacement/ → Service hub (all locations)
/locations/tampa/roof-replacement/ → Tampa location page
/locations/sarasota/roof-replacement/ → Sarasota location page
For service-area businesses (no physical location in each city):
/services/roof-replacement/
/service-areas/tampa/
/service-areas/sarasota/
/service-areas/tampa/roof-replacement/ → if serving 5+ cities
Service Page Requirements
Each service page needs:
- H1: "[Primary Service] in [Primary City], [State]"
- Introduction: GAI-optimized, 50-75 words, entity-first, direct answer to "what service do you offer?"
- Service description: entity-dense, zone-theory optimized
- Process section: numbered list (what happens when customer hires you)
- Service area section: list of cities served with links to location pages
- FAQ section: 5-8 PAA questions relevant to this service + FAQPage schema
- Trust section: license number, insurance, BBB, years in business
- CTA: above fold AND below FAQ section
Location Page Requirements
For each city page:
- H1: "[Primary Service] in [City], [State]"
- First paragraph: mention specific landmarks, neighborhoods, or local context unique to this city
- Service description: same core service but localized language
- Local trust signals: any local awards, chamber of commerce membership, local media mentions
- GMB embed (if GMB exists for this location)
- Map embed
- LocalBusiness schema with city-specific address/coordinates
- Internal link back to service hub page
Minimum local differentiation: at least 30% of content unique to that location page. Swapping only the city name creates near-duplicate pages → Panda risk.
GMB H1-to-CID Link
For each location, add the H1 link to the GMB CID URL:
[Business Name in City]
This is a known local pack signal from Mike Merlino's testing.
PAA Post Production (16 Posts)
Extract 16 most-asked questions for the primary service using paa-content-engine. Priority order:
- Cost questions ("How much does [service] cost?")
- Process questions ("How long does [service] take?")
- When-needed questions ("When should I replace my [thing]?")
- Comparison questions ("[X] vs [Y] for [service]")
- Local questions ("Does [service] price vary by city?")
